WNBA Russia Brittney Griner Testimony
WNBA star Brittney Griner gave testimony on Wednesday in her trial in
Russia on drug-related charges that carry a maximum 10-year jail
sentence. Griner said on Wednesday that, when she was detained at a
Moscow airport in February, her rights were not read to her. She was
told to sign papers without understanding what they meant. In her
testimony, Griner stated that the translation she got for the inquiry was
insufficient. Griner stated that she had no intention of traveling to Russia with
the cartridges. In addition, Griner's attorneys earlier this month informed a
Russian court that two years ago, physicians in the U.S. gave Griner a
prescription for medicinal cannabis to treat her severe pain.
